A young poet once told me to stay fancy-free,
to never give my love away, to keep it all for me.
For if my heart shall break
and be unable to mend,
I shall retrace the steps of my journey
and remember my poet friend.
For if I only took action in the steps he did request,
I wouldn’t have this broken heart beating from my chest
but, unable to capture his vision after that first kiss.
I have now experienced all sensations with the lack of bliss.
If I could go back in time and ask him again,
he would tell me once more, but only as my friend:
To never give my love away, to keep it all for me.
For if my heart shall break, I will never be free.
I will be trapped in a world in which I think is love.
But really, in the exterior, it’s none of the above.
Now that my poet friend lies deep down in the dark,
He will forever live inside of my broken heart
and occasionally, I will hear the sound of his shattered heart.
For it is the reason why he now lies in the dark.
