Who is Munira Mona Morsy?
Notes from the editor
Her friends call her Mona. She is a force of nature. She has never backed away from a challenge, and she has never apologized for who she is. Considering her upbringing as a lesbian in a household ruled by two separate homophobic religious cultures, it makes sense why Mona attacks problems with such ferocity: as a young woman, it was either sink into homelessness and depression, or swim. Mona chose to swim. She is swimming still.
Why Subscribe to MOAYC?
You are not alone in the cross fires of life. Most of us who care, who love and who want to be the best versions of ourselves, are often met with questioning and inevitably being on the contrarian side of views. By subscribing, you are not only supporting my work and ability to bring forth these imperative topics but to also allow me to continue doing what I love.
Additionally, you are helping me support my editor who works close with me in bringing these musings to a place where they can be appreciated and read by all. I hope to continue to grow in this project by creating a podcast, interviewing others and finishing my memoir which is moving toward it’s final stages.
If you find that you enjoy my content and can’t afford to become a paying subscriber, you can really help me by sharing these essays and my name with those in your circle. It helps more than you know.
What Do I Get From Subscribing?
Unpaid Subscribers
Each month, I will release an essay written on topics ranging from gender, sexuality, religion, culture, my own personal experiences and more.
Also, I will release a poem that I wrote during my most trying times. In my youth I have experienced exorcisms, homelessness and other forms of abuse by my family in an attempt to change my very nature. Each poem will provide a small glimpse of my experiences and tell a tale that perhaps, some of you may find familiar.
Every other month, I will release a short story. Depending on their length, these stories will either be released in full during the second week of the month, or they will be serialized if longer and will be released in weekly sections throughout the month. Some of these stories will be non-fiction, based on personal accounts that happened to me as a queer person raised in a multi-cultured, multi-religious household, some may be fictional or a combination of the two.
Additionally, I co-host a podcast with my dear friend Simone Brown called Finding Common Ground. In each episode we discuss varying topics from vastly different perspective. Myself, as a non believer and Simone as a devout Christian. We tackle each topic with our experiences and beliefs behind us, while still being able to come together in the end as friends. An episode from our podcast will be released for you to listen to each month.
Paid Subscribers
Paid subscribers will of course have access to all of the above, as well as be granted access to additional exclusive materials including my comic poetry series: The Sky The Stole 1000 Midnights that I have worked on with very talented artists globally as well as exclusive personal short stories in addition to the ones aforementioned.
Paid subscribers will also be granted audible/music versions of my poetry and short stories read by myself and others. These audible versions will transport you through the pages of the story and allow you to have access to the worlds I’ve built or the ones I have left behind. Additionally, as my memoir reaches it’s completion, those who are interested in receiving a copy will have first dibs on it.
Thank you for stopping by and allowing me the place to share what is very real and important to me. All are welcome.
